Aldi mascara, really?

First of all, the shape, wink wink nudge nudge, is hilarious. I'm not sure if a hilarious shape is a plus side of a mascara, but if it was. Secondly, the price. I actually don't know the price as I was given it but after a quick internet browse, I found its around $4. For Aldi, you'd understandably be surprised to read it's not actually that bad! It is very thick, and even thinking about putting it near your lashes leads to the spiders legs effect. But if you're very gentle, it can lead to dramatic, thick lashes. I probably won't repurchase, unless I get really skint, but for what it is I can definitely recommend. In other news, I'm typing this on the bus, and it has its heater on. What?!

Company ranty rant

I saw that Catherine from Lady LiquorVintage tweeted about a ‘certain’ magazine translating ‘where do the hipsters hang?’ to Spanish, and instantly knew what she was referring to and had to buy it to see it. In the interest of writing this blog post, I wrote down every phrase that annoyed me and quickly filled a page. Maybe I’m too picky, maybe I’m easily annoyed, maybe I’m a bit of a snob. Yet, I don’t think I’m the only one who’s noticed the massive change Company has made.
Company has been one of my favourite magazines, aside from Oh Comely, forever. However, the recent changes have made me question whether I will even continue buying it. Magazines understandably have to keep up with social media and creating an online presence to keep on trend, but if I wanted to see constant hashtags and abbreviations, surely I’d just visit their twitter? If anything, I read magazines and books to take a break from twitter! When I read a published article by a professional journalist, I don’t want ‘<3’, ‘Oscar Nom’d’, or ‘lolz for your hols’
Linking fashion magazines with blogs was most definitely inevitable; they are so similar and go hand in hand in a lot of ways. Without this link it can be argued that people will look to blogs rather than magazines for fashion inspiration. Yet, any good idea can be taken too far. Company first hit controversy with its piece on the A to Z of blogging, making stereotypes that many perceived as offensive and mocking. As blogs are on the internet, obviously, I suppose it can be seen as natural to follow abbreviation conventions of twitter. But, surely these journalists will look back at their portfolio in ten years’ time and tut at their opinion that K-Stew’s dress was totes amaze?

Coral Pro

As ashamed as I am to say it, I think I’ve had this Avon Nailwear Pro polish for 8 months and not yet used it. With the way I organise my nail polish collection, I keep my Models Own and Essie ones near the front, leaving the others behind. My Nan and Uncles girlfriend both work as Avon representatives so when I asked for nail polishes for Christmas, I received this as one of them. I of course appreciate them, but just forgot about them! This shade, for obvious reasons called Coral, is a gorgeous pinky-red toned colour that’s really bright on the nail. I used three coats here as they’re not heavily pigmented enough for my taste, but I’m sure two would do. I’m glad I tried this out, finally, as I was eyeing up a really similar bright coral shade from Essie. I’ve saved myself £8 there! Hopefully this will kick me into gear of using up the neglected polishes left to the back of the shelf.

Disaster survival guide

Sometimes in life, disaster strikes. By disaster, I mean both Wi-Fi and 3G simultaneously going tits up. This is, I’ll admit, a major first world problem, but a problem it is. No Twitter, Blogger, Tumblr, Instagram; I can’t even see the babies-having-babies-chav-fest that is Facebook. As Twitter and Instagram were my go-to happy places to keep my thumbs busy while getting used to not texting my ex, I needed a survival plan - and fast.
  • Go for a walk: seems simple enough, why didn’t I think of it earlier? Because I was too busy looking at #instagood #nailart, that’s why.
  • Read: in the past month or so, I have read the second and third Game of Thrones books (Jon Snow, why are you not mine?) Snow Child, Oscar Wilde’s poetry and Moranthology. Let me tell you, they have a lot more to say than my twitter feed does.
  • Cook: did you know how easy it is to make your own bread? No, neither did I, I was too busy doing Tumblr searches of Jon Snow (again, why is he not mine?)
  • Notice things: when on a bus, around 99% of the bus riders, if that is the correct term, are looking at their smartphones. Presumably, they too have found a photo of a cat. But when you put your phone down and look around, you will notice so many beautiful buildings. For example, I have only just realised that the McDonalds on Oxford Road in Manchester used to be a cinema.
  • Talk to people: this one seems the most obvious, but when you are out with people, you can actually talk to them. Similarly, your phone can also be used phone people, who knew?!
  • Sort: I hate sorting, really hate it, but life does feel that bit better when you have a neatly folded pile of old clothes, all ready for eBay
  • Think: I am no philosopher, but when I let my mind wander, it occasionally does come up with a few funny thoughts and very occasionally some clever thoughts
  • Write: when you don’t have a boyfriend to text your occasional funny and more occasional clever thoughts, you can note them in a notebook, type them in a blog (albeit on Word, to publish later), or tell your friends
I might be wrong, but this life sounds far more interesting and worthwhile than stalking photos of a girl you haven’t spoken to since secondary school, even if she does wear nice clothes

Room tour!

I moved into my lovely new home ready for third year of university (how did that happen?) I think I've finally got my room looking nearly how I want it to look. Obviously I unpacked my nail polishes first, and dropped and broke one sob sob, but I love the way they look on my fireplace! It really is the cosiest, girliest room ever so I'm hoping I wont turn into a total recluse because I love being in there so much! As you can see, where my make up is stored (or getting ready station, which is so much more fun to say) is painted pink, it used to be such an ugly chipped grey as you can see here, so I bought a few pink an purple tester paint pots and made it look so much prettier, fingers crossed the landlord doesn't notice/mind!

Byegone

I am finally back! I still don’t have wifi in my new house, and blogging in cafes is sometimes just that bit too much of an effort. But I’m back to stopping at home-home (uni students will know what I mean) for a few days so I’ve got internet. Hallelujah! Here are a few photos of a lovely park in Didsbury from yesterday; it’s so lovely in this weather. I took my camera out for the first time in ages and played around with the macro settings and got some nice snaps. I’ve got my room tour of my new room in my drafts ready to publish tomorrow, but wanted to share these photos first! Also, how lovely are these sandals? They were £12 from Primark and I adore them, I think I’ll get so much wear out of them, and very dodgy tan lines!

Are you getting enough

Nails: Models Own Utopia and Party Pieces
Lipstick - Rimmel Lasting Finish shade 19
Jacket: Zara - Leggings: Topshop - Bag: Zara - Tshirt: Primark

My new house doesn't yet have the wifi set up, so I'm currently typing this up in Starbucks, (yes I am one of those people.) And I've also used the Starbucks wifi to get Professor Green tickets, I am so so excited! I saw him on the tour with the second album and it was really good, I hope it's as good this year! Anyway, this is what I wore, I bought this jacket from the Zara sale for £12 reduced from £40 and I really love it! I'm not sure what else I could wear it with apart from just all black, but I'm sure I'll find something else. I'm all settled into my new house now, and I have a little room tour post planned if anyone would be interested?
